<image:title>Blog - Questions to Ask Your AirBnB Cleaners - Another option, and one that we at Honeysuckle decided to use, is for us, as the cleaning company, to purchase all the necessary supplies and amenities for your home, and re-stock them each time and simply include this service in the price of each clean.</image:title>
<image:caption>This does a few things for both hosts, and us. Firstly, we are able to purchase these things in high bulk quantities, meaning that our clients receive a large-scale discount that they would not be able to get on their own. Things like trash bags or paper towels can add up quickly, so being able to supply these items with large bulk orders, and passing those saving to our clients, was a no-brainer for us. Additionally, it allows us to manage the inventory directly, meaning you do not have to worry if you have enough coffee pods for the next guests, you don't have to order and ship to the house, only to have the items "misplaced" by current guests, cleaning staff, or porch pirates.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Questions to Ask Your AirBnB Cleaners - At Honeysuckle, we onboard properties into our system, and create a "listing" for each unit outlining specific details, requirements, and staging photos for our staff. This app also allows us to report issues or damages, notifying our owners and managers, so that they can solve the problems before guests arrive. Additionally, having a software system that enables us to upload photos directly, and allows our owners to view and track them, is extremely important to ensure that we are accountable, to get more eyes on the unit, and to have proof of the properties condition before guests arrive.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Questions to Ask Your AirBnB Cleaners - An important thing to keep in mind is that linens can be a costly investment, especially when you consider that, if they are being washed onsite, you may need to purchase 2 or 3 sets of everything for the home.</image:title>
<image:caption>Many cleaners do opt to clean linens on site, but this does have its drawbacks. For one, the time that it takes to clean linens can add up very quickly. Residential grade washers and dryers simply are not designed to wash the amount of bedding linen and towels that we, as short-term rental hosts, are putting through them. This means that turnovers take longer, and thus, you as the host will likely be charged for the increased time that a contractor is on site. Additionally, 9 times out of 10, the cleaner is going to stuff the machine as full as possible, and run it through a quick wash cycle. Although this may be enough in some cases, most of the time these sheets are simply getting wet and then dried, not truly cleaned. This results in more stained linen, more hair left after the washing process, and overall a less than desirable experience for your guests. Another option is to use a company that washes linens offsite, with commercial grade machines. This is definitely the better option, however, the companies that can offer this are limited, and may not be able to take on your units right away or in an emergency. There is also, typically, a lengthier on-boarding process due to the need to purchase, inventory, and track these linens. This does have its own costs, however, at scale and done correctly can actually be a more cost effective option for both hosts and the cleaning professionals.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Questions to Ask Your AirBnB Cleaners - When it comes to hiring a cleaner for your AirBnB or short-term rental, there are many factors to consider.</image:title>
<image:caption>Perhaps one of the most important factors in a successful host/cleaner relationship is clear and concise communication. This communication begins, believe it or not, in the way you "interview" your potential cleaner, the expectations that are set before an initial cleaning, and the questions that are asked, both by the host, and by the cleaning company. Here are a few questions that we have found are vital to setting expectations that lead to a quality result in the working relationship, and give Hosts a better idea of what to expect from a potential cleaner.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to Find the Right AirBnB Cleaners for Your Short-Term Rental - Before you begin your search for the perfect AirBnB cleaner for your short-term rental, it’s important to first take a step back and identify exactly what kind of cleaning services you need.</image:title>
<image:caption>There are many different aspects involved with turning-over a short term rental between guests, and being able to clearly communicate what you are expecting to potential contractors will help not only find a partner, but also help the relationship in the long term. Are you looking for someone to just clean, or will they be responsible for more of the operations as well? Will they be responsible for laundry services?</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to Find the Right AirBnB Cleaners for Your Short-Term Rental - 2. Research local cleaning companies that specialize in short-term rentals</image:title>
<image:caption>Finding the right AirBnB cleaner for your short-term rental can be a daunting task. Before you begin your search for the perfect AirBnB cleaner, it’s important to identify exactly what kind of cleaning services you need and communicate those needs to potential contractors. This will help narrow down the list of potential candidates and ensure that whoever is hired aligns with your specific requirements. Additionally, researching local cleaning companies that specialize in short-term rentals is also a great way to find qualified cleaners who have experience with AirBnBs. By including keywords such as “short term rental”, “cleaning”, and “Airbnb cleaning” in your research, you can easily find experienced professionals who are up to date on all the latest trends when it comes to Airbnb cleanings. It is important to note that, from the cleaning side, a residential job is very different than a short-term rental cleaning, and it is not necessarily a given to expect someone who is great at residential cleaning will also be great at short-term rentals. There are a few apps that allow you to not only find cleaners, but automatically schedule them. These are a great resource, however, they typically promote owner operators who may not be able to handle the volume of jobs that they are accepting.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Complete Guide to Cleaning Your Airbnb for Maximum Results - We have all of our full-time crews trained to start in the kitchen. The kitchen and living rooms are typically the gathering place in all homes, and as a result, are often the first impression guests get when arriving to the home.</image:title>
<image:caption>The first thing that we do, is to ensure that the dishwasher is either running, or has already completed its cycle, and to wash any dishes that may have not been in the dishwasher. Nothing is worse than finishing the job, and realizing you forgot to empty the dishwasher, only to find out that it was never run, and you then have to hand wash the dishes, dry them, and wipe down the sink and surrounding counter again. Next comes the counter tops and appliances, including the insides of the microwave, fridge, and oven. be sure to not just wipe down the counters, but to lift up things like toasters, knife stands, or counter top decor, and clean those items as well. We use ZEP stainless steel cleaner on all stainless appliances, including hood vents, and it works extremely well at removing fingerprints, grease, and water marks, without leaving behind any streaks. The inside of the fridge is an extremely important area, so be sure to thoroughly wipe down the shelves, and remove any drawers that you need to.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Toilet seats, bunk beds, cabinet hinges, and door handles. All of these things get beaten up by constant, high traffic use from short-term rental guests. A common issue we see is these items becoming loose, and when not tightened back up promptly, will break. This leads to higher costs in having to purchase new items, and unsatisfied guests having to deal with a loose toilet seat, a shaky top bunk, or a sketchy door handle.</image:caption>

Dragging suitcases up stairs, hanging decorations, and moving furniture all lead to damaged walls that regular cleaning cant help. We will touch up these areas in a cost effective manner by patching damage, painting effected areas, and blending the finish. <image:title>Blog - The Comprehensive Guide to Deep Cleaning a Short Term Rental Property - Bedrooms are one of the easier rooms to perform a deep clean in, but the are also extremely important to get right. After stripping the sheets, but before making the bed with fresh linens, we will make sure to replace the mattress cover and spray any stains that the mattress may have. We have had guest who will remove the mattress cover and ask for a refund after seeing a stain underneath it, so it is important to address the areas. It is also worthwhile to change the pillow protectors, and get swap out any that have potentially reached their end.</image:title>
<image:caption>After taking care of the mattress and pillows, we need to take a good look at some specific areas that may have been glossed over by your turnover cleaners. These areas include under beds, inside of drawers, nightstand, and cabinets, and in the closets. Take the time to sweep out from under beds and to dust off ceiling fans and blinds. Check each drawer and cabinet, and vacuum out any crumbs or dust. In the closets, use ZEP foaming wall cleaner to clean built in shelves and take the time to organize your hangars. These are all items that should be taken care of each turn, but tend to get missed if you don't have a great team with exceptional quality control.</image:caption>

The front door, or main entrance, of the property will always be the guests first impression of the cleanliness of the home, and ensuring that it exceeds expectations. If possible, spray some bleach on the exterior and rinse it down with a hose. <image:caption>The kitchen is the room in the home that will likely require the most work. I always recommend taking the time to take inventory of glasses, plates, bowls, and silverware, to ensure that your guests have enough of each item. Cleaning wise, be sure to clean the inside of the oven thoroughly, to vacuum out cabinets, to wipe down cabinet faces, and to empty out the toaster crumbs. Additionally, we always like to take the drawers and shelves completely out of the fridge and thoroughly clean them while we are at it, getting all the nooks and crannies and have it looking brand new. Be sure to check the oven hood, and the filters therein, cleaning them with a degreaser. Pots and pans should also be checked and thoroughly cleaned, by hand, if the require.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Comprehensive Guide to Deep Cleaning a Short Term Rental Property - Bathrooms</image:title>
<image:caption>Bathrooms are arguably the most important room to keep spotless for guests. Anything that is missed in a bathroom, is surely to lead to a refund request form your guests. This is where you should take you time to ensure everything is spotless, and in working order. Other than a normal cleaning of your bathrooms, and depending on how thoroughly your current cleaning provider is, here are some areas you may want to check on and address: Behind toilets check the back of the toilet for hairs and grime, spray it down with ZEP bathroom cleaner or whichever chemical you prefer, and wipe up the mess with a cloth. Pay attention to the base of the toilet and be sure to have it looking brand new. Toilet seats now is a good time to check toilet seats for damage or discoloration. If needed, we recommend replacing the seat, as some discoloration can be mistaken as not clean. Additionally, check the bolts on the seat and ensure they are tight, we often see these become loose, which can result in them breaking and needing to be replaced.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The majority of your guests time spent at the home will likely be spent in the living rooms and gathering areas. During a deep clean we recommend to pay special attention to the furniture and under the furniture. Remove couch cushions and vacuum, move couches and vacuum, treat stains on couches, chairs, and rugs. If possible, we like to remove cushion covers and throw them in the wash, it really helps bring the space back to life and give guests a fresh feeling. Additionally, clean the windows and walls in the same way we did in the bedrooms, and get out that duster and reach up into the corners of the ceiling, paying special attention to vents, fans, and blinds.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Why You Are Not Getting a 5-Star Cleanliness Review on Your AirBnB - Walls and Paint</image:title>
<image:caption>Perhaps the most common issue we see is scuffs and marks on walls. We often get asked to just "clean the walls", which we do, however, many of the scuffs marks and damage to the walls require attention beyond cleaning. Especially on staircases or tight corners, where guests are lugging suitcases into and out of the home, the walls tend to take a beating. Corners get dinged, walls and baseboards get scuffed, and doors get marked up. Damaged and scuffed walls, although not necessarily something a cleaning crew can fix, are often viewed by guests as a cleanliness issue, and can lead to negative reviews. Although a good cleaning company will do their best to clean off what marks they can, we recommend also looking into a monthly, or quarterly, touch up painting as a way to fight against this and to give the walls a clean look and feel.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Why You Are Not Getting a 5-Star Cleanliness Review on Your AirBnB - Furniture</image:title>
<image:caption>Stains happen. If you are in the short-term rental world, you know this is true. Make-up stains, blood stains, spilled drinks and other things I rather not think about, all seemingly work together to make host's and cleaner's lives more difficult. Using stained sheets or towels is an obvious no-no, however, what about the stained decorative pillow, or the couch cushion that has a small mark on it? what about the table that is scratched or the chair that is broken? Some of these items absolutely fall under the cleanliness category, and should be addressed by your cleaning partner each and every turnover. On the other hand, some of these things are issues that the cleaners are usually not responsible for, and as a host, need to be addressed quickly, and cost effectively. There may be a way to salvage the piece of furniture, so we definitely recommend exploring options like painting, refinishing/repair, or industrial strength cleaning before simply throwing an item away, but one way or another these issues will absolutely lead to a negative cleanliness review.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Why You Are Not Getting a 5-Star Cleanliness Review on Your AirBnB - Curb Appeal and Outdoor Areas</image:title>
<image:caption>The final area to pay some attention to, if you seem to be receiving unjust cleanliness reviews, is the exterior and outdoor areas of you short-term rental. Especially in the warmer months, guest will likely be wanting to take full advantage of that rooftop deck or the beautiful view from the balcony of their room. These amenities can be great selling points on your listings, however, if they aren't taken care of and paid attention to, they can also lead to negative cleanliness reviews. We recommend "soft-washing" or pressure cleaning your short-term rental, at a bare minimum, on a quarterly basis. Bugs, birds, dirt, and leaves can all gather up fairly quickly, and lead to unpleasant first impression at the front door, and an uncomfortable experience on that rooftop deck. Additionally, we recommend using chemicals to clean outdoor furniture, and to pay special attention to the exterior of ground level windows. Along that same path is the area of pest control. nothing will lead to an unhappy guest faster than bugs in, near, or around the home. Because of this, we absolutely recommend a bi-weekly or monthly pest service to ensure your home is pug and pest free, and that your guests are comfortable and happy during their stay.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Why You Are Not Getting a 5-Star Cleanliness Review on Your AirBnB - Burnt Out Bulbs</image:title>
<image:caption>This one has always confused me a bit, to be honest, but for whatever reason dead light bulbs cause guests to get the feeling of uncleanliness. An abundance of burnt out light bulbs, especially if they are in the same room, can make a space look dark and dingy. Additionally, it gives guests the sense that the home is not taken care of, or that their stay is not necessarily important to the host. Although this is most likely not the case, it can lead to a negative cleanliness review as there is not a "maintenance" or "upkeep" section on AirBnB's website.</image:caption>
